How to Neighbor
We live in one of the most transient areas in the United States, with military assignments and government contracts constantly rotating in and out. As the world grows more digitally connected, our neighbors are closer than ever. Yet, it’s really easy to never know the people on the other side of the fence. We don’t all have to be the best of friends, but we can still find ways to share their burdens and joys.

Taking initiative to get to know others. The way we choose to relate to those around us can set the tone for our community. A friendly smile, introduction, or offer of help is sometimes all it takes. Whether it’s someone just moving in or a neighbor of many years, we are taught by Jesus to love everyone in word and action

Showing genuine interest in others. Habits come from repeating a behavior for a period of time until it becomes rote. Breaking habits requires intentionality and replacing them with new behaviors. We can learn a lot about people by simply stepping out of our comfort zones and learning their stories.

Serving others without strings attached. Learning to love our neighbors well can have an amazing domino affect on those around us. Many of us are familiar with the movie, Pay It Forward.
